Despite the gloomy economic outlook, one of Australia’s leading economists is convinced Australia will avoid recession.
AMP Capital chief economist Shane Oliver has given seven reasons why:
- Rapid rebound in immigration (see image)
- Large pipeline of home-building work
- High energy prices are boosting Australia’s national income
- Potential for a lower Australian dollar (which will make our exports more competitive)
- Solid business investment outlook
- Comparatively less inflation than in other countries
- The Reserve Bank has slowed down its rate rises
