Ever wondered who the typical property investor is?
Well, according to new research by the Australia Housing and Urban Research, the large majority (76%) own their homes and most (52%) live in households comprising a couple with dependent children — literally ‘mums and dads’.
So why do mums and dads invest in property?
The potential for rental income was the most popular reason (61%), followed by the potential for capital gains (52%) – see image.
What about the top two reasons for selling?
Well, half of those surveyed said they had sold because it was a good time to realise capital gains, while 47% said they wanted money for another investment.
