Australia’s population has certainly been on the move over the past few years.
First, many regional areas saw an influx of new residents over the pandemic, with Melbourne’s estimated resident population (ERP) actually falling 1.6% in 2020-21 as a result, according to new data from the Centre of Population.
Then, with restrictions easing, the trend reversed, with former city-dwellers returning home.
Given all this change, you might be wondering what the fastest-growing areas were between 2019 and 2022.
Well, a new report from KPMG Australia has identified the top 10 fastest-growing regions over this timeframe (see image).
What’s interesting about this list is that many of these areas contain a significant number of ‘greenfield developments’, or open land that’s being developed for housing.
