Want to know why successful investors ignore negative media chatter?

Well, just four months ago, the news was full of dire predictions that property prices would plummet by as much as double figures.

Yet, here we are with CoreLogic’s national home value index posting its second consecutive monthly rise after dwelling values increased 0.5% in April, following a 0.6% lift in March (see chart).

CoreLogic’s research director, Tim Lawless, said the figures suggested Australia’s housing market downturn was over.

“Not only are we seeing housing values stabilising or rising across most areas of the country, a number of other indicators are confirming the positive shift. Auction clearance rates are holding slightly above the long run average, sentiment has lifted and home sales are trending around the previous five-year average,” he said.
