Two key takeaways from Domain’s latest house rental data, for the June quarter.
First, national house rents jumped an amazing 11.5% over the year, which means a lot of investors made strong rental gains over that period.
Second, as the chart shows, performance differed from location to location, in some cases widely. That illustrates that there’s no one ‘Australian property market’; rather, there are lots of different markets, which move through different cycles and deliver different rates of return. That’s why where you buy is more important than what you buy – because while you can renovate or rebuild your property, you can’t change its location.
