You might be wondering how many Australians invest in property.  

Well, the most recent data from the Australian Taxation Office shows 14.8% of Australia’s 15.1 million taxpayers held an investment property in the 2020–21 income year.   

Of these, the majority (71.5%) own just one property, while a further 18.9% own two properties. 

As the table below shows, less than 1% of investors own five or more properties. 

Why so few? 

Well, building a property portfolio requires solid foundations. 

So the first property you buy is arguably your most important. And you get that right by basing your purchasing decision on facts, not emotion.
